Description

This Colt Single Action Army, manufactured in 1882, is a classic black powder frame revolver chambered in .38 WCF (also known as .38-40). Featuring a 4 3/4-inch barrel, non-factory finish, and wood grips, this piece is a true antique and a survivor of the American frontier era.

Though rated in fair condition, this revolver retains legible markings and remains in working order. It has been vigorously cleaned and refinished, with some softened edges and scattered pitting. The chrome plating and rounded metal details suggest an early preservation effort rather than recent restoration.

Adding character to this piece is a set of carved walnut grips, one of which features a unique inlaid chess knight motif—an uncommon and personal touch that makes this antique Colt even more collectible.

As a pre-1899 antique, this revolver is not classified as a modern firearm and is a fascinating piece for collectors of 19th-century American arms and early Colt production.
